NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course

  Skill Level: Beginner to Expert

An 8-hour (1-day), in-person beginner's course that introduces different types of pistols and teaches safe firearms handling.

The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Instructor-Led Only program, serves as a foundational program for beginners and frequently satisfies the live-fire training prerequisites for a concealed carry weapon (CCW) permit in various states. This immersive environment not only builds fundamental marksman skills but also instills the vital defensive mindset and safety habits necessary for responsible, everyday concealed carry.

What You Will Learn

You will develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for pistol fundamentals, as well as how to utilize different shooting positions for effective marksmanship.

In the classroom, you will learn the mechanical differences between semi-automatics and revolvers, how to select and inspect ammunition, and how to safely clean a pistol. On the firing range, through this tailored instruction, you will build precise shooting fundamentals—including sight alignment, grip, and trigger control—culminating in a live-fire qualification where you will put your new marksman skills into practice.

  1. No less than 21 years of age at the time of registration.
  2. A physical valid California or Legal Resident photo ID card.
  3. Ability to read, speak and comprehend English Language.
  4. Ability to check your email inbox regularly.
  5. Ability to arrive early and check-in on time.
  6. Ability to conduct firearm safe handling demonstrations.
Ear protection, eye protection, semi-automatic pistol, hollow point ammunition, and magazine with ammunition loaded.

Upon successful completion of this course and passing the live-fire qualification, an NRA-Certified Pistol Instructor will send you digital Certificates of Completion from Sure Grip Arms and the National Rifle Association (NRA) by email.

Most importantly, you will leave with the confidence, guidance, and proficiency to safely own and handle a pistol!
